Billy Bear first came to life in 1991, when Loraine drew up Cartoon Colorbooks for her neices and nephews. The story line was created to help the children after the death of their Uncle Herbie, when he was killed by a drunk driver.

From there, Billy Bear jumped from the coloring paper to the computer screen.
